Farewell to Dr Éva Berényi…
It was with profound sadness that we learned the tragic news that our beloved doctor, Dr Éva Berényi, former general practitioner of the Bánki Donát College of Mechanical Engineering, a predecessor institution of Óbuda University, passed away on 30 July 2026, in the 86th year of her life.
Dr Éva Berényi’s connection to Bánki spanned nearly 55 years. From the establishment of the College, her husband, Dr Károly Piróth, served as the institution’s physician. Following his sudden and tragic passing, Dr Berényi took over his role as the College’s general practitioner.
With her kind and caring personality, she looked after the “Bánki community” with great dedication. There was no health problem for which she would not offer her help, whether through treatment or by finding the most appropriate specialist or healthcare institution. Her professional expertise, extensive experience and valuable advice made everyday life and work easier for generations of Bánki employees.
Alongside her work at Bánki, she also worked as a family doctor in Budapest’s 8th District and still found the time and energy to contribute to medical education. She was also a staff member and mentor at the Department of Family Medicine of the Budapest University of Medicine.
In 2009, in recognition of her dedicated work for Bánki employees and her selfless commitment to patients facing difficult circumstances in Budapest’s 8th District, Dr Éva Berényi was awarded the honorary title of “Honorary Citizen of Bánki”.
Even after her employment at Bánki came to an end, she remained the general practitioner of many former colleagues. Her dedication and caring attitude can serve as an example to all physicians.
She is mourned by Bánki’s senior and former colleagues, as well as by her many patients, who learned from her not only through the care and healing she provided, but also through her dedication to her profession and her humanity.
Dear Doctor, dear Éva, farewell. Rest in peace. We will remember you.
Her funeral service will be held on 26 August 2026 at 11:15 a.m. in the Makovecz Hall of Farkasréti Cemetery.
