Dear Students,
The information necessary for the thesis can be found in the message below, in accordance with the Study Regulations. Please read the information carefully, to ensure smooth administration!
Choosing a Thesis/Diploma Work Topic
Thesis/diploma work topic proposals must meet the training and final requirements of the program and be related to the given program or specialization.
- External topic (from a company): In this case, an external institution or expert makes a proposal to the student for the topic of the thesis and also proposes a person to act as an external (secondary) supervisor. To register an externally sourced topic, please fill out the “External Topic Registration” form available on the institute’s website by April 15 for winter final exams, and by November 15 for summer final exams. This topic must be approved by the head of department/institute director, who will also appoint an internal (faculty) supervisor. External thesis topic proposals must be agreed upon with the internal (faculty) supervisor designated by the institute by April 30 for winter final exams and by November 30 for summer final exams.
- Internal topic (faculty): In this case, a lecturer from the department/institute makes a proposal for the topic based on their industrial knowledge and individual professional interest, and also undertakes the internal supervisor’s tasks, or takes on the topic proposed by the student as an internal supervisor. Internal thesis topic proposals must be agreed upon with the internal (faculty) supervisor by April 15 for winter final exams, and by November 15 for summer final exams. If you cannot find a topic/supervisor, please fill out the “Supervisor Search” form on the institute’s website by April 30 for the winter final exam and November 30 for the summer final exam.
Topic approval and submission
Topics accepted by the supervisors will be reviewed by the institute management. If they agree that the topic meets the thesis requirements (it involves engineering work), the topic will be approved; if clarification or correction is needed, the topic will be returned to the supervisor for modification.
Neptun administration
The finalized topics are uploaded to Neptun by the institute administration, who will also handle the students’ registration to their topic.
Diploma Work subject
Students can only register to the Diploma Work subject if they have an active, valid thesis topic at the time of registration. The institute checks the registered students after the registration period. Students, who have registered for the Diploma work subject without a topic, will be taken off the subject register by the institute administration!
Documents and secreting
Secreting: Students with a thesis from an external company may request confidentiality if the company deems it necessary. The request, statement, and agreement forms required for the secreting process can be found in the appendices to the Study Regulations. The current Regulations do not have an English translation, so if you require the English forms, you may translate the Hungarian ones, or find the MEI administration for older copies. The completed
documents must be submitted to the MEI administration by October 31/March 31 of the semester in which the thesis will be submitted.
- Request form (1 copy)
- Declaration (1 copy) (supervisor)
- Agreement between the company and the university (3 copies)
- Agreement between the student and the company (at least 2 copies)
Assignment sheet: You must include your signed and stamped assignment sheet, which you will receive from the MEI administration, in your thesis. You will be able to pick it up from the first week of November/the first week of April. No changes can be made after the assignment sheet has been issued!
Late topic submission
After the deadline, topics can only be submitted using request form OE-0014 (and only until the end of the registration period), which entails a fee!
Best regards,
MEI Administration
