Dear Students!
On behalf of the management of Obuda University allow me to draw your attention to the RECCS World Championship in Pasta Bridge Building, which will be held for the 10th time this year on May 29, 2025, at Obuda University. The competition brings together engineering students from universities and colleges across various countries. At the most recent championship, teams from Brazil, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Turkey, and Transylvania participated.
The tradition of pasta bridge building competitions spans several decades. Designing and building a strong and beautiful structure is a serious engineering task. Success requires thorough knowledge of statics, computational analysis, material science, and technology, along with creativity, skill, persistence, and strong motivation. Since most teams consist of 2-3 members, teamwork skills are also essential.
The championship follows a well-established set of rules regarding the construction and submission of bridge structures, which are evaluated by a distinguished panel of experts. Participants may enter with bridges made from commercially available dry pasta or homemade pasta consisting solely of flour and eggs. The total weight of the structure, including the load-bearing element, screw, nut, and washer, must not exceed 1 kilogram.
The competition evaluates the load-bearing capacity of the bridges using a specialized testing device. The applied force gradually increases until the bridge breaks. This moment is often spectacular and sometimes accompanied by a loud cracking sound – hence the name “RECCS” (Hungarian for “crack” or “snap”).
As in previous years, we would like to invite you once again to participate in this prestigious event. It would be a great honor for our university if you accepted our invitation!

Participation in the championship is free of charge!
The three strongest bridges will be awarded, along with prizes for aesthetics and innovation. The jury will evaluate structures based on novel construction techniques and aesthetic appearance. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, we also aim to provide special awards for outstanding projects, recognizing the exceptional work of talented students.
