Our now graduated mechanical engineering student, Lilla Szamosujvári, ended the year 2025 with outstanding results and great performance. At the end of May 2025, she achieved 4th place overall at the 5th Dunakeszi Glider Championship, and also won the best female pilot award. During the summer, she first participated in the 39th Glider World Championship in the Czechia in June as the team captain of the Hungarian national team (the attached flight photos were taken here), and then in July in the 70th Hungarian Glider Championship at Békéscsaba, where she could compete with the best of the Hungarian field.

One of the most important events of the year was held in Zbraslavice, Czech Republic, from the end of July to mid-August, the 13th Women’s Glider World Championship, where she achieved 14th place overall. In addition to her, another Hungarian pilot participated in the competition, Judit Muráti, who came 11th, so together they achieved the best Hungarian female performance in a world competition in recent times.
And our student’s successes did not end there, she also won the women’s category of the 2025 Hungarian Glider Cup, which lasted the entire season, which is her 4th victory in a row and her 5th overall in this category!

While preparing for her final exam, she shared her kind words with us: “I will carry the support and trust I received from Óbuda University as a guide: I will remember this period with joy and gratitude even after my final exam on January 29.”

Then we asked her about her plans for 2026:

“In April, I will start the season in Slovakia at the Fatraglide competition, among the mountains. In May, I will participate in the Riesa-Canitz Streckenflugwoche in Germany, and in June, in the Hungarian National Championship in Őcsény; after that, I will be the team captain of the Hungarian team at the European Championship in Poland. In the fall, I will prepare for a wave camp in the Czechia, and I will also teach (as the only female instructor) at Hajdúszoboszló, my beloved club, throughout the season.

My goal for 2026 is to become the first Hungarian female pilot to complete a 750 km long-distance flight – such an achievement has never been achieved by a Hungarian female pilot. Furthermore, I would like to break several women’s records in the future, and in 2027, I would like to perform successfully at the Women’s World Championship in Slovenia. In addition, I am leading the European Gliding Union as a technical expert a class whose focus is to attract and retain as many female pilots as possible in gliding.“

Obuda University Bánki Faculty would like to express how proud we are of the outstanding performance of our now-graduated mechanical engineer colleague and that we were able to be a part of this stage of her competition.
