The Obuda University Racing Team (O.U.R. Team) represented our University at Formula Student Austria, held at the Red Bull Ring. Read their personal account as they take us through their experiences, challenges and results from the competition day by day!

The first two days were spent travelling to Austria, setting up the campsite and preparing the race car for the competition. We then moved into our pit in the circuit’s pit lane and began the technical inspection process. The BlueBird required only a few minor repairs, which we managed to complete that same day. During the evening reinspection, both our car and our drivers successfully passed the required tests, including the emergency egress test, in which the drivers had to demonstrate that they could exit the car within five seconds.

On the third day, we focused on the static events and the dynamic technical inspections. Our Vehicle Dynamics team successfully completed the tilt and noise tests, while our Business Plan team presented its business concept to the judges. During the day, we also took part in the Engineering Design and Cost and Manufacturing events, where our team presented the engineering and economic decisions made during the development of the car. BlueBird then successfully passed the brake test as well, completing all stages of the technical inspection. We finished the day with a team and car photoshoot on the main straight of the Red Bull Ring.

The fourth day was all about the dynamic events. Our drivers prepared in the practice area for the Skid Pad and Acceleration events, where our car competed under real racing conditions for the first time this year. In the Skid Pad event, we finished in 8th place with a time of 5.431 seconds, while in the Acceleration event our driver completed the 75-metre distance in 4.786 seconds, securing 9th place. In the afternoon, it was time for Autocross, where despite an unexpected technical issue, we still managed to achieve an 8th-place finish.

The final day focused on the 22-kilometre Endurance event. We successfully repaired the issue encountered on the previous day; however, during the race, a new and previously unseen technical problem occurred, which unfortunately prevented us from completing the full race distance.

Despite the technical difficulties, we are proud of every member of our team and of BlueBird. We finished the competition in 10th place in the combustion vehicle (CV) category, placing us in the upper half of the field.

However, the season is far from over. Our team has already begun further testing, repairs and development work in preparation for our next challenge, Formula Student Alpe Adria. Our goal is to further improve our results and take another step towards achieving our objectives. We believe that development must never stop – neither for the car nor for the team.
