Obuda University Remains Among the World’s Leading Universities in the THE World University Rankings
Obuda University has retained its position among the world’s leading universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027, announced Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of the University. As in the previous year, the institution is ranked among the top 800 universities worldwide and achieved the second-best position among Hungarian higher education institutions.
The THE World University Rankings evaluates an increasingly broad international field each year. In the 2027 ranking, 2,297 higher education institutions from 118 countries and territories were assessed, compared with 2,191 institutions in the previous year. This growing participation also means stronger global competition, requiring universities to maintain their positions in an expanding and increasingly competitive international environment.
In 2027, Times Higher Education introduced a more detailed banding system. The previously unified 601–800 band is now divided into two separate ranges: 601–700 and 701–800. Under the new system, Óbuda University is ranked in the 701–800 band, meaning it remains among the top 800 universities in the world.
Maintaining this position is a particularly significant achievement in a continuously expanding international field. While more and more higher education institutions meet the criteria for inclusion and enter the global competition, Obuda University has consistently preserved its place among the world’s leading universities.
Research performance continues to be one of the University’s defining strengths. The THE World University Rankings evaluates universities based on 18 indicators across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry engagement. This methodology assesses not only educational and research activities, but also the impact of scientific results, international embeddedness, and industrial cooperation.
Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács emphasized that research quality and the research environment remain key pillars of Obuda University’s performance. The University’s consistent efforts in research development and internationalisation in recent years have contributed significantly to its sustained presence among the world’s leading higher education institutions.
The Rector also highlighted that this year’s result forms part of a longer-term development process. Obuda University aims to further increase its international visibility and competitiveness by strengthening research excellence, expanding international scientific cooperation, and developing its educational and innovation performance.
